Track-By-Track

We’re All F***ed

Punk, yes. Fans of either hardcore or pop punk will like this. Kind of halfway between. The basic message is also the title. A shorter track that may require hitting that repeat button.

I Guess I Know

My favorite part of this track is the guitar. By the sounds of it, you’d swear these guys have been around a decade or more.

Youth Disapproval

A minute and a half? Really? You write something this good, and it’s that short?! Not fair. Hitting repeat now. All your teenage angst in a tiny package.

Get it Right

This one will have you pulling your hair out, trying to get it out of your head. Whether it be the lyrics or the music itself, you’re gonna be stuck with it. You’re welcome.

Ray of F***ing Sunshine

Coming in at less than a minute, you’ve got the perfect song to quote for the right occasion (we all know you quote lyrics, so don’t lie).

Carry the Flag

To be perfectly honest, I find this track a bit difficult to review. The vocals aren’t entirely clear. Great beat and background, though!

The Way It’s Gotta Be

Again, this one is gonna get trapped in your head. The chorus is super catchy. Ooh! And that bridge! Sorry, not sorry. Good luck getting it out of your brain.

Upon Conformity

I really like how this track starts. Hard-hitting and definitely an attention grabber. The rest of the song doesn’t disappoint. My personal favorite on the album.

Under My Thumb

Loving the energy in this one. Not that the others lacked. This one is perfect for your get-up-and-go.

Brimstone

Going for a run? Add this to your playlist. Great sound and beat. A solid second place on my favorites list.

Riot

This track needs no introduction. You’ll love it the first time through.

My Time

Simple chord progression, but not monotonous. Good song. Good rhythm.

Teenage Dipsh**

Ok, then. No intro, just jump right in. If you’re familiar with Salzburger Echo, this may sound familiar. Not an insult. Kind of fun.

Recommended?

I’m gonna go with yes. I’d call it a solid 8/10. For a new band, that’s high praise.

Apologies

Hello, music lovers!

Long story short, I’m stuck mostly in bed and unable to move much. Because of this, I am unable to make a real post. This will most likely affect the Thursday playlist, as well.

While I am out of commission, feel free to look back on previous posts, and share them with your friends and family.

As always, if you have something you think I should hear, I’d be happy to check it out! And if you’re a new band or solo artist, my reviews and features are always 100% free advertising! Just shoot me a message via Instagram @ries_views

Coronavirus Panic

Your coronavirus-themed playlist starts right here! Check out these 10 hits!

Artist & Song

Warren Zevon “Don’t Let Us Get Sick”

With nothing but an acoustic guitar, Warren sings our thoughts of “don’t let us get sick... let us play nice...” Very chill sound that’s perfect for everyone

Led Zeppelin “Sick Again”

It’s Zeppelin, that’s for sure. The classic band hits their hard-beat style with a song that doesn’t actually even have the title in the lyrics. Nice try, tho.

Ramones “You Sound Like You’re Sick”

“Here’s your new home. It’s where you must be.” Super relatable, right now. Not actually about physical illness, but it was a nice thought. If you’re not familiar with Ramones, this is a good place to start.

Cheap Trick “Sick Man Of Europe”

Ok, then. Not the best we’ve heard from CT. It reminds me of Taylor Swift trying to validate herself with the screaming of “I’m not...” Thoughts?

“Weird Al” Yankovic “Callin’ In Sick”

It’s Weird Al. And it’s most definitely appropriate for the current situation, in the most hilarious way possible. A must.

Evanescence “Sick”

“Sick of it all...” is exactly right. Those tired of hearing about nothing but Coronavirus? Show of hands? In typical Evanescence style, you’ll get all those angry feels out in musical form.

Fountains Of Wayne “Sick Day”

“She’s taking a sick day... Soon.” Let’s hope not! Unless it’s voluntary, that is. A relaxed tune with some good lyrics. Paints a good picture.

Lisa Loeb “Sick, Sick, Sick”

Not a fan, personally. Just kind of useless lyrics put to a thrown-together melody.

Sister Hazel “Sick To My Soul”

Again, not actually about being sick, as you probably figured from the title. If you’re a fan of “All For You”, but haven’t had a chance to check out more by SH, this is a good one to put on your list.

Finger Eleven “Sick Of It All”

Helpful hint: Don’t turn up the volume when the beginning it too soft. You’ll get blasted. If you’re a fan of the one song most of us have heard by FE (“One Thing”), you’ll definitely want to check out this one.

Irish Rovers

Artist: The Irish Rovers

Album: The Best of The Irish Rovers

Year Released: 1999

Track-By-Track

The Unicorn

Ever wonder why we don’t have unicorns? The Rovers have explained it here in a song that the whole family will love. It’s got a catchy melody and lyrics that can only be described as cute.

Liverpool Lou

Are they insinuating that girls from Liverpool (scouse) are unpredictable? Can’t say they’re wrong. What say you, English readers?

The Orange And The Green

Background: The colours of the Irish flag are orange, white, and green. The orange represents the Protestant faith, and the green represents the Catholic faith.  They don’t, or at least didn’t used to, get along very well.

Lily The Pink

Good luck getting this out of your head. You’re welcome. Just a fun song. Could make a good drinking game.

Did She Mention My Name

The title of this track are half the lyrics. Good song. Little bit needy, but good.

The Irish Rover

A live version, so the lyrics aren’t exactly as you’ll find them online. So listen carefully. Also, check out the original to hear the differences.

Whiskey On A Sunday (The Puppet Song)

A chill vibe that’ll take you back to the old country, whether you’re Irish or not.

The Biplane, Ever More

Heroic tale of a little biplane who rose above his circumstances and size. Take that jets!

Mrs. Crandall’s Boarding House

You may have to listen to this one a couple times to catch every image they e painted in the lyrics. Then you’ll laugh, if only quietly to yourself.

Winken’ Blinken And Nod

Do yourself a favor and look up the poem. Same words, different spelling (Wynken, Blynken, and Nod)

Goodbye Mrs. Durkin

Fun song about going to “Califarny” during the gold rush. One line is particularly relatable: “Goodbye Mrs. Durkin, I’m sick and tired of workin’”.

The Black Velvet Band

All I can say is, “Poor guy!” A cautionary tale, for sure. Cautionary and catchy.

Years May Come, Years May Go

Straightforward message. The past is past, but there’s always the future. Great tune.

The Marvelous Toy

We all had that favorite toy, growing up. This tune is catchy while making you think of your childhood. Fun song.

Goodbye Mick And Goodbye Pat

Fast-paced like what we usually picture Irish music to be. Sure to get stuck in your head, and no, I’m not even a little sorry.

Nancy Whiskey

Another live version that starts with a fun quote. You probably shouldn’t let kids listen to this. Unless you really like the chorus, that is. They’ll be singing it on a loop for days.

Recommended?

Yes! A great “best of” compilation for the whole family.

Runners Delight

Artist & Song

KONGOS “Come with Me Now”

No doubt you already know this one. With its driving, hard-hitting beat, it’s perfect for every runner— beginner or the 5 mile a day sort.

As December Falls “Always Set on Letting Go” [E]

Old school ADF, but this one will never lose its addictive factor. It’s got a quick beat, and will keep you motivated.

Fall Out Boy “Novocaine”

Wanna get pumped? This is your song! From stretching to cool down, this track would fit right in with your faves.

All Time Low “Guts”

Replace “say” with “do”, and this is your new everything song. Or keep the original words, and you’re ready for that meeting, speech, or difficult conversation.

Del Amitri “Roll To Me”

Oldie, but goodie. This is one of those that you’ll want on repeat. For hours. It’s catchy and has a good, steady beat that’s perfect for most people’s stride.

The Maine “My Heroine”

If you’re not stuck on this in the intro, we can’t be friends. Then there’s that one spot. You’ll know what I’m talking about. This is a band called The Maine.

5 Seconds of Summer “Babylon”

I know, I know... “5SOS?! That’s kid music!” I promise, it’s not. Not anymore. Check it out if you don’t trust me. The beat and the music combined make this a great one to keep up your drive.

Avril Lavigne, Nicki Minaj “Dumb Blonde”

Avril has come a long way since “Sk8er boi”. This one is perfect for your run with its marching band feel. And if you’re particularly upset with someone, it’s got that for you, too.

One Direction “She’s Not Afraid”

Again, “kid music”, “boy band”. I know. Get over it. This one is fun and has a good rhythm. Something light.

Survivor “Eye of the Tiger”

What run would be complete without this? None. The answer is, none. You’re welcome.

Layaway

As decided by a Facebook vote, I’m proud to present: Layaway

Artist: Layaway

Album: (Technically none. All singles)

Year Released: 2016-2019

Track-By-Track

3.00 AM

Road trip? Train trip? That, “It’s raining outside, and I’m pretending I’m in a music video” feeling? This is your new go-to!

Pitt Street

Great driving beat throughout that’ll make you forget its Monday. Chord progression pushes us toward the chorus, and makes us want it to go forever. Great bridge.

Blindside

The band has definitely defined their sound! This one is more of an end-of-road-trip-and-on-the-way-home-now sound, which is good since it’s the end of the 3-track recording.

Close Your Eyes

A different opening than we’ve come to know. Mix it up a bit. This one has the end-of-summer vibe that you’ll be holding on to the whole year round.

The Impossibility

Yes! I’ll be your everything, and anything! Biggest fan, among other titles. More chill in the overall sound (until around 2:15), this one will have you falling for your S/O all over again.

Counting Windows

Another great, driving beat that you’ll instantly fall for. Great for your road trip playlist.

Blood and Water

If you’ve ever wanted to stand on the edge of a high cliff, and scream as loud as you can, this song is for you. It’s got a sound that just makes you feel open and free.

Falling Knives

“Rising as you fall.” Great image, great line, and great feeling. Just a great song.

Recommended?

You’d do well to add these great tracks to all your favorite lists! Check them out, now!

Kings of the Wild Things

Monday Album

Artist: Kings of the Wild Things

Album: Kings of the Wild Things

Year Released: 2019

Track-By-Track

Stockholm

What a way to start an album! It’s like an electric shock that doesn’t end. A great beat, an even better sound. (Not gonna lie, this blogger had it on repeat for a while)

Dance Monkey Dance

“Dance, monkey, dance. You’re the puppet in my hands.” Been there. Not a situation you’d like to repeat... unless you’ve got a fast-paced tune to go with it. Great song!

Freak Show (E)

We’re you the outcast? The freak? The bottom of the pyramid? KOTWT feel ya there. But it’s not always a bad thing. Do you, your way.

Fairytale

This is one you’ll have in your head for hours, if not days. Catchy melody, plus intriguing lyrics, you get a smash.

Sharkbite

“Jaws” theme got nothin on this (had to be done). This track is an interesting one. Again, the chorus has a melody so catchy that you’ll be singing along all day

Frankly My Dear (I Don’t Give a Damn) (E)

This blogger’s personal favorite song from these guys. The reference is in-your-face, so it’s totally on you if you miss it πŸ˜œ

Graves

The most danceable tune on the album. That’s saying something when you’ve got beats like theirs! It’s Monday, yes. That doesn’t mean you can’t crank it on the way home!

Recommended?

Yes, yes, and more YES! I’m a big fan of this album, personally, and I think you will be, too! Check em out and give them the recognition they’ve earned!
