This list is made of songs that I, personally, listen to when I’m annoyed or upset. They’re not all vengeance or the “poor me” type. Many are just upbeat and fast-paced, and help me just forget about what’s going on. What’s on your list?

Adele “Rolling in the Deep”

Ok, so the list starts out with a little vengeance. “Don’t underestimate the things that I will do” just about sums it up, sometimes. 

Jon Schmidt “All of Me”

Jon Schmidt is a piano genius. If you’re not familiar with his work, I’d highly recommend fixing that. This one is just everything.

Brooks & Dunn “Boot Scootin’ Boogie”

This is one that just has a “happy” vibe. It’s catchy, upbeat, and if you know the dance to it, you can dance away your cares.

5 Seconds of Summer “No Shame”

The chorus, specifically, is one that’ll get stuck in your head, ensuring your annoyance at whatever, takes a back seat.

All Time Low “Some Kind Of Disaster”

Off ATL’s newest album, and already a favorite of millions. All Time Low has a way of making things into something else. This track is self-detrimental, but it’s fast-paced and has an upbeat sound.

All Time Low “Take Cover”

Yes, another ATL. They’re a personal favorite. I really can’t explain why this one is in this list. It just has a sound I’m particularly fond of.

Matthew Wilder “Break My Stride”

What better song for being annoyed? The chorus says it all.

One Direction “Kiss You”

Again, just a good vibe from this one. Especially if you’ve seen the hilarious, campy video.

Jo Dee Messina “My Give A Damn’s Busted”

The title says why it’s in this list.

Jake Owen “Barefoot Blue Jean Night”

Keep the good vibes coming with this country hit. Not a fan of country? That’s ok. There are other songs.

2 Unlimited “Maximum Overdrive”

This is a personal throwback to better times. The video to this one is the epitome of 90’s, but kind of fun.

Roxette “The Look”

This one, cheesy as it may sound, is kind of empowering. Just the sound of it, then you add the lyrics. Good, addictive tune.

Last week, followers voted between 50’s and 60’s music. 50’s won, so here is one song from each year, 1950-1959.

Artist & Song

The Weavers “Goodnight Irene”

This kind of live version is fun. The crowd isn’t screaming, like they do now. They’re singing along. The song, itself, is classic. Simple, fun, and has a good melody.

Nat King Cole “Too Young”

Who doesn’t love Nat King Cole? Nobody, that’s who. His music is classic and classy, and that voice is a treasure. His style was perfect for the time, yet continues on into the 21st century.

Leroy Anderson “Blue Tango”

An orchestral piece that’s just fun to listen to. If you’re a band geek, like I am, it’s even more fun.

Percy Faith “The Song From “Moulin Rouge”” Another orchestral piece. Chill and romantic, but honestly not a fan.

Perry Como, Henri René & His Orchestra “Wanted”

Ahh... that 1950’s harmony. There’s nothing quite like it. A good song with the usual 50’s orchestra interludes.

Pérez Prado “Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White”

This list found quite a few band/orchestra pieces. This one is fun and easy to dance to. 

Elvis Presley “Heartbreak Hotel”

There’s nobody like Elvis. That’s all.

Pat Boone “Love Letters In The Sand”

A good song, until the whistling. If you’re like me, whistling just gets on your nerves. If you can get past that short part, you’ll be able to hear the last line. All in all, a good track.

David Seville “Witch Doctor”

This is the most popular version, but not the original. The original was written and recorded by Ross Bagdasarian Sr in 1957. And, yes, that’s Alvin from “Alvin and the Chipmunks”.

Johnny Horton “The Battle Of New Orleans”

American history put to music. For my American patriots, this song is about the second time King George III invaded, and subsequently, the second time he failed 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 Plus it’s catchy.

Yes, it’s the song from “Beetlejuice”. You’re welcome.

I Do Adore Her

Truth be told, the intro is a little off putting. The song, as a whole, is catchy and has cute, fun lyrics. It’s got that paradise vacation feel.

Jamaica Farewell

The simplicity of this one is definitely a mood. A chill vibe that’s perfect for your after-work relaxing.

Will His Love Be Like His Rum?

This one is just all-around fun. From the flute, to the drumbeats, to the catchy lyrics, you’ll be dancing along.

Dolly Dawn

If you’re not dancing on the second beat, we can’t be friends. I’ve said this before, but this is a fun song. This whole album, so far, is just fun. Harry has a way all his own. 

Star-O

Reprise of the first track... kind of. 

The Jack-Ass Song

Not what you’re thinking. About a literal jack-ass. Also called a donkey. Another super catchy one that makes it impossible to sit still.

Hosanna

Don’t be that first house. Be the second. Guaranteed you’ll be hooked on this one the first time through. 

Come Back Liza

A calmer beat, but no less a jam. Another catchy smash.

Brown Skin Girl

*Do NOT get political about this* It’s what we have come to expect from this album. It’s catchy and has the evening-chill vibes you’ll be wanting after a Monday.

Man Smart (Woman Smarter)

What a way to end an album! The highest energy track on the album will have you wanting to learn ballroom dancing so you can keep up.

Recommended?

An excellent album, to be sure! Definitely 50’s, but with flair.

Hold On

Wilson Phillips “Hold On”

Odds are, you’ve heard this one. Released on their self-titled debut album in 1990, this song has carried millions of people through hard times with its positive, encouraging chorus, and message of “Hold on for one more day”. Did you know that these ladies are children of members of The Beach Boys and The Mamas & The Papas?

Chord Overstreet “Hold On”

Overstreet has captured every feeling of every word he sings. A great voice, good lyrics, and fantastic backtrack make this a must-listen. Check out the remix of this song, too! 

Good Charlotte “Hold On”

A sad song that captures the angst of every teenager, whether the lyrics apply or not. The drums may be a bit louder than necessary, and tend to drown out the lyrics. But then, isn’t that why we love GC?

KT Tunstall “Hold On”

You know who this is the second it starts. KT has an unmistakable style that makes you want to move. Hit that repeat button, and dance your cares away!

Jonas Brothers “Hold On”

Not gonna lie, I’m not a fan of the vocal style. It screams, “I’m musically mocking you”. Like, is it too hard to sing the way you speak? But their fan base spans millions, so they’re obviously doing something right

John Lennon “Hold On”

I’m a little afraid to say what I think here. Lennon’s devoted fans won’t like it. Go listen to it for yourself. 

Alabama Shakes “Hold On”

Nope. Moving on...

Hootie & the Blowfish “Hold On”

“Only heartbreak on the 6 o’clock news, they oughta call it the 6 o’clock blues” Yep. That’s what we’re all thinking, these days. Lyrics contradict the funky melody and backtrack.

Starsailor “Hold On”

Starts out super chill, then hits hard with an excellent percussion line. Pretty good track. Highly suggest you check out more from Starsailor!

50 Cent “Hold On” [E]

No. Not now, not ever. Rap is not music. It’s in this list because of its title. If you like him, great. Go forth and listen.

Mystery, anticipation, reveal. This song really is amazing. Even if you don’t understand Italian, you can appreciate the feel of this. The chills will run up your arms with every chorus.

Gira con Me

For those who like to pretend you know every word, I’m with you. A great chill tune that still has a great flourishing chorus and great orchestration.

You’re Still You

A great message. If you’ve been through a difficult time, or are currently going through one, this is just... awesome.

Cinema Paradiso (Se)

Excellent execution, but I can’t say much about the song, itself. Not a fan of the melody or the background.

To Where You Are

For those who have lost someone close to them. Josh doesn’t just sing this emotional tune, he creates the associated feelings.

Aléjate

Again, great execution, poor composition. Not a fan.

Canto Alla Vita (feat. The Corrs)

The Italian/English mashup is fun. The Corrs bring a lot to this song. Considering it was already a goosebump-inducing melody, that’s saying something!

Let Me Fall -from Cirque du Soleil

A melody that can only be described as “interesting”. Not bad, but not something that really captures attention.

Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)

A nice, chill track. Grab a cup of your favorite hot drink, and melt into your couch and blanket.

Un Amore per Sempre 

Still got that drink? This song is a great follow-up to the previous one. The ebb and flow of this is great. Then you get to that part. You know which one. It’s almost like two songs in one.

Home to Stay

I think the backtrack on this is underrated. It’s simple, for the most part, yet it brings the lyrics together. 

Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring (feat. Lili Haydn)

Most people will recognize the main melody. A favorite of many.

The Prayer (with Charlotte Church)

Remember when this would play every five minutes on the radio? And how, after a month, everyone was begging it to stop? Well, it’s been a few years with it played only periodically. It might be safe to listen to, now. Take it slow. Baby steps.

An incredible debut for Mr. Groban that was hard to follow. 100% worth your time.

Let’s Get Fruity

Jack Johnson “Banana Pancakes”

A great groove to start your weekend a day early. A bit nonsensical, but isn’t that why we love it? It’s definitely a sit-on-the-beach, road-tripping vibe.

Grouplove “Raspberry”

If you’re not familiar with Grouplove, this probably isn’t the best one to start with. Great album, to be sure, but start out slow. They’re an acquired taste, but once you’re hooked, there’s no going back. This track is their own brand of groovy that makes you want to throw on some tie-dye and just, well, groove.

Alexi Murdoch “Orange Sky”

Over 6 minutes long, and yet still not enough. If you’re wanting that I-need-to-be-sad-for-a-while feeling, Alexi has you covered. Great tune!

Led Zeppelin “Tangerine”

It’s Zeppelin. For most of the world, that’s enough. For the uninitiated, the 1970’s weren’t as bad as today’s oldie stations would have you believe. Check it out. 

Harry Styles “Kiwi”

To be perfectly honest, this is the only track on Harry’s solo album that doesn’t make me want to stick an ice pick in my ears. It feels like he’s screaming rather than singing. That said, it’s not a lot of people’s... style (bad, I know). So don’t feel bad if you’re not digging it.

Jessie Reyez “Apple Juice”

First time hearing this. Not really impressed with Jessie’s voice or style. I honestly could not get through the whole thing. But you make your own judgement.

Shawn Wasabi, SATICA “Mango Love”

Do not, under any circumstances, allow children to learn these lyrics. That’s all I’m gonna say.

Benny Sings “Passionfruit”

If you’ve ever heard someone sing while plugging their nose, this is spot on. Relatively decent composition. All right background. Not a personal favorite.

Girl Band “Pears For Lunch”

Umm... This list just keeps nosediving. I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry. There’s no actual singing! It’s just talking weird.

Miguel “Pineapple Skies”

Nice intro, and someone who can actually sing! Thank you, Miguel, for saving the end of this list! Not going to be everyone’s cuppa, but I’m sure this track will find a home in many playlists.

Track-By-Track

We’re All F***ed

Punk, yes. Fans of either hardcore or pop punk will like this. Kind of halfway between. The basic message is also the title. A shorter track that may require hitting that repeat button.

I Guess I Know

My favorite part of this track is the guitar. By the sounds of it, you’d swear these guys have been around a decade or more.

Youth Disapproval 

A minute and a half? Really? You write something this good, and it’s that short?! Not fair. Hitting repeat now. All your teenage angst in a tiny package.

Get it Right

This one will have you pulling your hair out, trying to get it out of your head. Whether it be the lyrics or the music itself, you’re gonna be stuck with it. You’re welcome.

Ray of F***ing Sunshine

Coming in at less than a minute, you’ve got the perfect song to quote for the right occasion (we all know you quote lyrics, so don’t lie). 

Carry the Flag

To be perfectly honest, I find this track a bit difficult to review. The vocals aren’t entirely clear. Great beat and background, though!

The Way It’s Gotta Be

Again, this one is gonna get trapped in your head. The chorus is super catchy. Ooh! And that bridge! Sorry, not sorry. Good luck getting it out of your brain.

Upon Conformity

I really like how this track starts. Hard-hitting and definitely an attention grabber. The rest of the song doesn’t disappoint. My personal favorite on the album.

Under My Thumb

Loving the energy in this one. Not that the others lacked. This one is perfect for your get-up-and-go.

Brimstone 

Going for a run? Add this to your playlist. Great sound and beat. A solid second place on my favorites list.

Riot

This track needs no introduction. You’ll love it the first time through.

My Time

Simple chord progression, but not monotonous. Good song. Good rhythm. 

Teenage Dipsh**

Ok, then. No intro, just jump right in. If you’re familiar with Salzburger Echo, this may sound familiar. Not an insult. Kind of fun.

Recommended?

I’m gonna go with yes. I’d call it a solid 8/10. For a new band, that’s high praise.

With nothing but an acoustic guitar, Warren sings our thoughts of “don’t let us get sick... let us play nice...” Very chill sound that’s perfect for everyone

Led Zeppelin “Sick Again”

It’s Zeppelin, that’s for sure. The classic band hits their hard-beat style with a song that doesn’t actually even have the title in the lyrics. Nice try, tho.

Ramones “You Sound Like You’re Sick”

“Here’s your new home. It’s where you must be.” Super relatable, right now. Not actually about physical illness, but it was a nice thought. If you’re not familiar with Ramones, this is a good place to start.

Cheap Trick “Sick Man Of Europe”

Ok, then. Not the best we’ve heard from CT. It reminds me of Taylor Swift trying to validate herself with the screaming of “I’m not...” Thoughts?

“Weird Al” Yankovic “Callin’ In Sick”

It’s Weird Al. And it’s most definitely appropriate for the current situation, in the most hilarious way possible. A must.

Evanescence “Sick”

“Sick of it all...” is exactly right. Those tired of hearing about nothing but Coronavirus? Show of hands? In typical Evanescence style, you’ll get all those angry feels out in musical form.

Fountains Of Wayne “Sick Day”

“She’s taking a sick day... Soon.” Let’s hope not! Unless it’s voluntary, that is. A relaxed tune with some good lyrics. Paints a good picture.

Lisa Loeb “Sick, Sick, Sick”

Not a fan, personally. Just kind of useless lyrics put to a thrown-together melody. 

Sister Hazel “Sick To My Soul”

Again, not actually about being sick, as you probably figured from the title. If you’re a fan of “All For You”, but haven’t had a chance to check out more by SH, this is a good one to put on your list.

Finger Eleven “Sick Of It All”

Helpful hint: Don’t turn up the volume when the beginning it too soft. You’ll get blasted. If you’re a fan of the one song most of us have heard by FE (“One Thing”), you’ll definitely want to check out this one.
