Year Released: 2017
Track-By-Track
Mixed Signals
A very chill version of “I need you. No I don’t” back and forth. “Loving you is my greatest sin.” I’m sure we’ve all been there.
Dandelions
This track features a backtrack different from the last, as it has more than a simple piano. Makes it more dance-able, as it were. “Wishing on dandelions all of the time”. Let’s face it, who’s never done that? Nobody. This kind of brings back those pre-teen feelings, but isn’t a juvenile song.
Unrighteous
Ruth introduces some sporadic harmonies that complement the intended accent quite nicely. The melancholy sound brings out the break-up feeling of the lyrics.
Superficial Love
Percussion and whatnot come back for this one. The song is all about, if you really love someone, show them. And if you’re not an important person in your partner’s life, just leave. Nobody deserves to be arm candy who is treated poorly.
If This is Love
See above. “If this is love, why do you break me down?”
Lost Boy
Almost guaranteed that you’ve heard this one. It’s everywhere. It’s also this blogger’s personal favourite on the album. We have all heard songs about feeing alone, but how many of them end happily? She was lost, and she found a place to fit in.
Young
Starts out with a great beat that immediately makes you want to dance. I mean, how can you have a song about being young without a driving beat? Live life, don’t just watch it.
If By Chance
Ooh! An orchestral background. That’s new. Basically, if you break up with her, I’m still here, and do you do the same things with her that you did with me.
World War 3
A bit different than the rest of the album, but definitely a good track. The title, however, says most of the meaning behind the song. Relationship was good, then world war 3.
Safe Haven
Everyone needs a person (and song) like this. When things go crashing down, we all need a safe haven. Someone to talk to and be with.
In My Dreams
Been through some terribly tough times, but seeing you in my dreams means everything is all right. Interpret for your situation.
First Time
Recovering from a bad break-up? If you’re completely over them, this is the song for you. Doing well without that person, especially when toxic, is incredibly freeing.
Recommended?
Yes!!! Ruth B has a style all her own that fits with most people’s taste. She’s got something for everyone. Great composition and lyrics, plus her unique voice and style, makes for an amazing album.
