Bed Of Liars

Artist: The Unlikely Candidates

Album: Bed Of Liars

Year Released : 2017

Initial opinion

Not exactly something to pump you up in the morning, but definitely has some good motivational beats for workouts, cleaning, and dancing.

Track-By-Track

“Best Things In Life Aren’t Free”
Plunky intro, followed by some airy guitar/synthesizer backgrounds. It's got a hard-hitting chorus that's impossible to deny or forget. this tune kind of lets up off the beat during verses, but then you reach the bridge. this part is very distinctive and hard-hitting in a whole new way.

“Ringer”
We've all heard songs like this. Your typical “she’s too good for me, but I'm going to try anyhow” thing. It has the vibe of "Uptown Girl" with a 2010's pop-rock sound. An overdone topic, in my opinion. It has a good beat, but all in all, I'm not impressed by this particular track.

“Your Love Could Start A War”
The intro to this track is, quite possibly, the best intro to any song of the decade. I listened to it no less than ten times. The overall feel of the track has hints of old west climax scene. Like, if "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" were made now. This is my favorite track, but I'll let you decide for yourself.

“Violence”
Mostly beat and minimal guitar, it's got a feel all its own. It might just be me but I thought “what did I just listen to?” It's a good idea with poor delivery. Not much to say about this one.

“Call My Name”
You’ll most likely need to look up some of the lyrics. Some parts are fast, some are just unintelligible. The beat/rhythm combo can only be described as "interesting". This track is bound to be on your repeat.

“Reaction”
Not your basic 4/4. Musicians will understand. The best part of this track is that it isn’t overly repetitive. There's an urgency build-up that keeps the song both moving and interesting. The quick cutoff ending is, as always, much appreciated.

Overall Impression

As with every album, some songs are just better than others. Of the six on this album, I would say five are really good. Each song shows a different side of what The Unlikely Candidates is capable of. Great album.
